What an interesting topic, Miss Matichei. Elphie doesn't really write too much, but when she does, it usually comes from "imaginary" visions that play themselves out in her head. Even when playing pretend when she was a small child -- her favorite game -- she never felt that she made the stories up: she just told them. In this way, we seem to operate along the same lines as your honoured self, so to speak.

I was so pleased to read this. Only yesterday I was thinking about this -- and had very similar thoughts.

Well, that's not quite true. I had intuitively the same reaction of thinking that Tellurian marriage is already messed up. The clear reasoning here clarifies my intuition. Thank you, Annalinde.

Your "talking front door" scenario is fascinating (also enchanting).

I recently heard of a study in which a speaker was placed inside a plush toy and young children alone in a room heard the plushy "speak" to them. Most looked around to see if someone else was speaking, but once satisfied that it was the plushy speaking, simply entered into conversation with it with no sign of great surprise.

It would have been interesting to know whether their reaction would have differed if they had been in groups rather than alone.

How interesting about the origin of "cheer".

It makes me wonder about the expression "cheer up". Was the "cheer" originally a verb, as in "drink up", or a noun as in "chin up"? I wonder.
